RELEASE – Xander thanks volunteers, donors and supporters (Highland Ward, Perth & Kinross Council Elections on 3rd May 2012)

Xander thanks supporters

On Sunday 12th August, the Campaign to Elect Xander McDade held a Thank You party for its volunteers, donors and supporters to thank them for all their help in the recent council election. At the event to Xander expressed his thanks and thoughts post-election – “I’m very pleased to have done so well in my first election and would like to take this opportunity to thank the 559 voters who voted for me in their first, second, third and fourth preferences and who brought me so close to being elected.”

“I would also like to thank Comment and Aberfeldy Community Council for encouraging local democracy in the election by holding hustings meetings, along with Heartland FM, ensuring voters had an opportunity to question the candidates on their policies. Comment, through its coverage of the election and by publishing articles by my campaign, allowed me to reach thousands of people across Highland Perthshire who, in many cases, we could not reach in any other way – due to their remoteness and the cost of distributing leaflets. I know this was one of the several reasons the result was so close.”

Asked what he intends to do next, Xander said – “I will continue to fight for what I believe in. There are a number of contentious local issues still unresolved, including the protection of the Bank House in Pitlochry, and I hope the new Perth & Kinross Council Development Committee take the local heritage and very considerable local opposition into account, make the right decision and vote against the proposed demolition of this part of our heritage. I look forward to continuing to serve the public in my role as a Community Councillor and will use the time between now and the next election to continue putting forward the interests of the people of Perthshire without the distraction of party politics.”
